What you will need:

1. Tape measure
2. Pencil and paper

Things to keep in mind:

1. Measure in centimetres and take to the nearest 0.1 cm (1mm)
2. When measuring always look out for anything that may get in the way of your new made to measure blind so that you are sure of a perfect fit.
3. Blinds can be fitted into the face of your window frame or wall or into the top of the lintel.

Exact or recess?

1. Exact is when you want your blinds to hang outside the recess (see Figure 1)
2. Recess is when you want your blind to fit inside the window recess (see Figure 2)

Exact Measurement:

1. Measure the exact width area where you would like your blind to cover. Now write down the measurement. (Note that the width of the blind ordered by you will be the overall blind size not cloth size. Please call us if unsure).
2. Measure the exact area you would like the blind to cover from top to bottom as shown in the diagram. Now write down the measurement.

Please remember to specify EXACT measurement when ordering your blind with Online House Blinds if you want your blind to hang outside the window recess. All blinds ordered with an exact measurement will be manufactured to that exact size with no allowance made by us. We deduct 5mm off the height of vertical blinds to ensure the vanes do not touch the window sill or floor.

Figure 1

For exact measurements it is best practice that you have an overlap of 51mm (2") at the top and 38mm (1.5") on each side. For vertical blinds it is recommended to have an overlap of 102mm (4") at the top and the same for each side.

Recess Measurement

1. Measure the of the window wall to wall; left to right in three different positions as shown in
Figure 2. Now write down the smallest measurement.
2. Measure the drop of the window from head to sill in three different positions as shown in
Figure 3. Now write down the smallest measurement.
3. We will make the necessary adjustment for the recess.

When you order a blind with the RECESS fitting we will deduct approximately 10mm to make sure that the blind fits perfectly. We deduct 5mm off the height of vertical blinds to ensure that the vanes do not touch the sill or floor.

PLEASE NOTE
For roller blinds, we have to allow for the fittings at both ends of the blind as there is no head rail. This means that the fabric will be between 2.8 and 3.3cm less than the overall blind width ordered.
Please get in touch if you have any questions on how to fit any of the blinds we can make for you.
